Dozens of Suspect Criminals Arrested in Kampala Crackdown

The Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified intelligence-led operations across the city and surrounding districts, targeting criminal networks ahead of the year-end festive period and political campaign season.

Over four days, more than 170 suspects were arrested in coordinated raids across multiple divisions.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the operations aim to maintain law and order amid growing public gatherings and heightened political activity.

“We have zero tolerance for criminality. These targeted operations are aimed at dismantling criminal networks and keeping our communities safe, especially as we move into a sensitive period of increased public activity and political gatherings,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Between October 28 and 31, 2025, police conducted raids in Nansana, Nakawa, Old Kampala, Kira, Kajjansi, and Mukono, targeting drug abuse, theft, and public nuisance.

On October 30, an early-morning operation in Wamala Police Post, Nansana Division, led to the arrest of eight suspects for alleged narcotics possession.

The following day, 16 suspects were arrested in Nakawa Division, while twin operations in Old Kampala Division’s Nakulabye and Kisenyi areas yielded 48 arrests and recovered narcotics and weapons.

In Kampala Central Division, police apprehended 40 suspects linked to motor vehicle theft and street robberies.

Additional arrests included seven suspects in Kira Municipality and 45 suspects in Kajjansi Division for early-morning robberies, while Mukono operations netted nine suspects found with narcotics.

Beyond arrests, the force has emphasized community cooperation as a key pillar of crime prevention.

On October 29, police conducted a community policing drive in Bulabira Kalitunsi, Najjera, educating residents on neighborhood watch, domestic violence, crime prevention, and electoral offences.

ASP Owoyesigyire commended public cooperation, urging communities to continue sharing credible intelligence.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership reaffirmed its commitment to sustained, intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks and ensure safety throughout the festive and campaign season, with further operations planned in the coming weeks.
